Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted Quilted by Debbie Lee
For my sister's wedding, Mom made our bridesmaid dresses from quilt fabrics so we could TRULY use them again (mine was yellow). Based on a quote by Omar Nelson Bradley, "We need to learn to set our course by the stars, not by the lights of every passing ship."
Facing The Wedding Vase, by Phyllis Maddox
3rd Prize, Large Quilts.
106 x 104
Machine Pieced, Machine Embroidered, Machine Quilted
My son's wedding quilt. The wedding was last December and they are anxiously waiting for it to be done. I thought it would be good to put some birds and bees on the quilt, but I guess it wasn't necessary. I'm working on the baby quilt now.
A Border Does Not A Red Quilt Make...or Does It?, by Melissa Radzyminski
1st Prize, Wall Quilts.
Pattern Name: Corn And Beans. 62 x 62
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
Started in 2003, the center of this quilt sat finished for more than a year before I decided how to incorporate my inspiration fabric. After I choose a red border and red thread, lengthy discussions began…is this a “work in red”? I decided that a border does not a red quilt make.
North Pole Neighborhood, by Christina Crouch
2nd Prize, Wall Quilts.
55 x 45
Machine Pieced, Hand Appliqued, Machine Quilted, Embellished
A two year project started in Missy Shay's class for the book "Welcome to the North Pole" by Piece O'Cake Designs. Lots of work but great fun to choose fabrics and embellishments.
Katie's Critters, by Beth Kurth
3rd Prize, Wall Quilts.
Pattern Name: Giraffic Park by Mckenna Ryan. 43 x 50
Fused, Machine Quilted
I knew when saw this quilt kit, it would be perfect for Alice's soon to arrive baby, Katie. Katie is a miracle who inspires me to hope. She also inspired another miracle - this quilt getting finished! Tiny pieces proved too much for the original hand applique plan, so fuse became my friend.
Redwork Sampler , by Sylvia Weld
1st Prize, Challenge Quilts.
Pattern Name: Plumples Vintage Pattern. 48 x 24
Machine Pieced, Hand Embroidered, Machine Quilted
This year's challenge was a great chance to work this pattern purchased last year. Then the challenge was... to get this done for the show! My! There are a lot of red threads out there to do redwork!
Woman, Heaven, Grace, by Lori Kay
2nd Prize, Challenge Quilts.
24 x 29
Machine Pieced, Hand Embroidered, Fused, Hand Quilted, Machine Quilted, Beaded embellishments
Based on a Japanese floral stencil, I chose to combine fusible applique with redwork embroidery. I added beads to the appliqued flowers and shadow-quilted (a la Alex Anderson) around all the elements to give the quilt additional dimension.
Black And White And Red All Over, by Stephanie Shore
3rd Prize, Challenge Quilts.
36 x 36
Machine Pieced, Machine Appliqued, Machine Quilted
Created in response to a lecture by Carol Taylor.
Annisquam Light, by Jory Agate
1st Prize, Other Quilts.

Machine Pieced, Machine Appliqued, Fused, Machine Quilted
This was created for a colleague in honor of her ordination. The light house is located at her childhood beach. She often draws it, and I stole one of her drawings to create the piece. Throughout her accreditation process I informed her that she could not just pass her exams, she had to be "stellar!" She was, so I bestowed her with this stole to honor the occasion.

Pattern Name: Swanee By Hari Walner. 100 x 100
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
My daughter's Christmas present. This quilt turned out nothing like the original plan. I completely changed the design and the fabrics. After it was mostly done I decided I liked the back better than the front, so I made it double sided and you're seeing the original back side.

This quilt is dedicated to my Girl Scout leader (also my mom) and her "pieces of string too short to use" sense of humor. Everything could be found in her attic except the fabric stash. She was allergic to sewing.
Grandma's Attic, by Jeanne Funk-gedies
2nd Prize, Challenge Quilts.
36 x 48
Hand Appliqued, Machine Appliqued, Machine Quilted
There was no attic at Grandma's, but, behind the assorted artifacts, was a view which reflects wonderful childhood memories of running, exploring, discovering, and most importantly, absorbing the roots of my family. I treasure those times.

36 x 36
Machine Pieced, Machine Appliqued, Fused, Machine Quilted

This quilt is a gift to my husband. It was inspired when we hiked in the White Mountains on Columbus Day weekend 2000. It was a beautiful fall weekend, the woods were exploding with color as the weather changed from sun to rain then snow and back to sun. Look for the snowflakes on the quilt.

Flower Moon, by Adeline Mega
1st. Prize, Challenge Quilts.
Pattern Name: Strips 'n Curves. 36 x 36
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
I started this quilt in May. The circles made me think of moons. That evening, the weatherman said that there was a full moon and the name of the full moon that month is the Flower Moon. Right away, I said, "That’s my quilt."

I really liked this quilt as well as the name, and as soon as the challenge quilt was mentioned I knew this was the pattern I would use. The book was my sister's and she was the one who introduced me to quilting. This quilt is a tribute to her - and, of course, I am the younger sister.
